In light of Gaylord's study, the implementation of the Bernoulli® system was integral to the facility’s risk management objectives. There were several key benefits of the system that risk management acknowledged, including:
  • Archive capability provided access to patient data in the event of clinical complications
  • Clinical staff responded to high priority patients in a timelier manner due to prioritization of alarms
  • The next interface of the Bernoulli® system to be put into operation is automated vent check reports. This feature will place the vent check report electronically into the patient’s chart, and could eliminate the risk of transcription error while addressing JCAHO documentation requirements. It is estimated that this feature will save approximately 15 hours per day (15 minutes/vent check x 10 patients x 6 checks/day).
As a result of the Bernoulli® system, Gaylord enabled patients to become mobile sooner while continuing to receive the highest quality care. The respiratory staff could work in various areas of the facility with peace of mind. And, the pulmonologists had better data to base clinical decisions for faster weaning. Overall, the Bernoulli® system addressed several needs for Gaylord. Those needs were providing a safe environment for patients, delivering superior patient care and improving risk management practices.
